N E W S - Comic#10 "Inconspicuosity"Current Comic>>N E W S - More Siberia Artwork! 1/3/13GO>> I've finally found somebody to help me out with all of this writing. I have a lot of ideas running around (and colliding) in my brain, so it's nice to have someone there who can organize my messy brainstorms! Feel free to check out some new Siberia artwork!
N E W S - Comic#9 "Party Pooper"Yay! More comics!
Current Comic>>N E W S - More fun with my tablet 1/1/13N E W S - Final Digital Project 12/10/12This is my final project for my illustrator class. We were tasked with creating a one-page narrative of our choosing. I think that my new Wacom tablet does a wonderful job of replicating traditional materials (watercolor and ink in this case)
Once this semester officially ends I'm going to create a digital art page where I'll plop all related work. N E W S - 10/26/12 I'm trying very hard to say something that has meaning. That's why I love to draw. I can't write very well which continually frustrates me (on a daily basis now - and especially as I type out Siberia) and so I feel the need to channel communication visually. In one of my design classes, my professor is continually bringing up the point that all art has some sort of meaning. This is implemented especially into graphic design, where the eye is guided by the artist towards an end (a product or slogan).
But I feel that my pieces are missing this important implementation. Is it worth it to give my pieces a more definite meaning when so many people feel so differently about each drawing? I'm scared that I would be frustrated at any misinterpretation of what I would think to be a very clearly conveyed message in my art. Maybe the fact that it could mean anything is meaning in and of itself. I'm so tired. Today was my first day of work at a local Walgreens. It's my fault that I'm exhausted though - I only prepared for what I thought to be a 5 hour work day when I ended up staying for 8 hours. I have only two days out of the week to do homework for my courses at Bergen. Oh and I can't stop listening to this song. N E W S - 10/18/12 Siberia Concept ArtGO>>N E W S - 10/13/12 Illustrator Art
Some recent assignments from my Adobe Illustrator Course:
N E W S - 10/8/12 Titles Added I have just added titles to each piece in the g a l l e r y. I believe that these pieces will make a little more sense with some explanation - even if it's something as small as a caption.
Also - I've been having a lot of fun with my Adobe Illustrator course. Would anyone be interested if I started uploading my projects? N E W S - 10/7/12 Fist Pump(s) + Announcements This Saturday (10/6/12) I was elated (and a bit surprised!) with a second place award at the Van Saun Park Art Show! Just a great day to interact with other artists and enjoy the beautiful weather! I sold a few prints and I am waiting on a gentleman to contact me about commissioning a piece - which will be a first for me!
I do realize now that I neglected to post any announcement about the show. I've been juggling announcements with deviantart, Facebook, and my portfolio and it's leaving me cluttered. I feel as though I should be focusing my efforts here, to give my art a more structured platform while keeping Facebook for loose interaction and feedback. I have found deviantart to be almost entirely useless in giving me direction for my art. Don't get me wrong - there are INCREDIBLE artists and a lot of good friends on there - it's just that people tend to be extremely positive. I would rather somebody really read into my art than getting an occasional "loove this lol!!!1" or "INSTA-FAVE." I feel like I'm kind of past that. I hope that doesn't sound too big of me.
ALSO, Siberia has been coming along. This week, check back for some more conceptual stuff and an update on how the project is going. At the advice of a friend (who has written several graphic novels) I am typing the entire script first and sketching characters and locations as I write. I am extremely visual so it is tough for me to hold back on drawing out full pages first., but I've been sticking with a writing schedule that has been working out fine. At this rate, I should have the first draft by January (though I can promise NOTHING because I'm lazy like that....) N E W S - 9/19/12 Turpentine SyndromeNew ink drawing uploaded:
I'm wondering if I should include a small description for each of these drawings on the gallery page. Something for me to ponder.
N E W S - 9/18/12 Spike.I just thought I should mention that yesterday, site views reached an all-time high! Hello all new visitors - come back soon :P
And that's all... N E W S - 9/16/12 Upward! I was awarded second place in my division at Hawthorne's annual art show! Had a splendid time talking with other artists, discussing various techniques, and eating plenty of bagels. During the show, I had a chance to talk with the library coordinator about showing my collection in Hawthorne's gallery, and possibly teaching an after-school art program. Hopefully I can find time in between classes to get myself organized! Teaching would be a big thing for me - and as of now, I'm up for a challenge.
Thanks to those of you who stopped by! I appreciate the support :) It was good to see your (synonyms for awesome) faces.
Now back to homework... N E W S - 9/11/12 Siberia Concept Art
N E W S - 9/6/12 MURKI was having a bad week. But it's okay because Jesus loves me and all that good stuff.
N E W S - 9/4/12 Simmering Down The school year is so close! I don't know whether to be excited or utterly miserable - college is such a different world with its own new challenges. My first class is in just two days! (that would be Thursday). With a tighter schedule, I really do hope to kick my updates up to at least once a week. Can I do it? Probably not but we'll see. Drawing shouldn't be a chore, but if I can upload drawings more frequently, a spike in visitors could be worth it.
To keep myself sane, towards the close of the summer I've begun a first draft of Siberia, a graphic novel that I WILL FINISH. Ahem. Expect some concept art and such goodies by the end of this week. I also want to mention that I will be entering several of my ink drawings into a local art show on September 15th (Next Saturday). Though there's usually a small outcome, I have fun seeing what other artists in the area are up to. If you are interested in coming and taking a peek at some of my art in person, let me know! The show is going to be at a local library in Hawthorne, NJ. Like I said, it's a small event but I enjoy it every year. Life moves fast!
N E W S - 8/10/12 TEAM SPIRIT [3]Kerri Walsh Portrait Uploaded:
N E W S - 8/8/12 TEAM SPIRIT [2]Michael Phelps has also been immortalized into my humble sketchbook:
N E W S - 8/6/12 TEAM SPIRIT [1] In the spirit of the Olympics I've sketched one of my favorite athletes - Gabby Douglas. GO TEAM USA!
(uploaded to the p e o p l e page.)
I'm not going to apologize for not uploading anything. I haven't drawn anything so there's really nothing to upload. Unless you're all expecting a blank sheet of paper. (which I understand someone did at one point and sold for 2 million.) This week check back for a few more "athlete" drawings.
N E W S - 7/20/12 LOST?New ink uploaded to the gallery. Besides the sky which took a little longer than I wanted it to, I had fun with this one...and that's a good thing.
N E W S - 7/15/12 Site Update I took the weekend to give the site a much-needed makeover. There are a couple of pages still under construction so forgive any broken links (Email me if you find any!) A new S T U F F page has been added which will eventually house all of my little projects. I also hope to re-upload those five Visual Mystery cases when I get the chance. Life has been crazy!
N E W S - 7/11/12 Pencils & PeopleOne Small Step
Usually after completing a drawing I feel a sense of freedom. I can't seem to draw two things at once. This posed a problem for all my DA friends wondering where I was while I completed a recent stipple which took me upwards of 2 months to tackle. (a total of 25+ hours!)
But freedom for an artist (or whatever you would call me) is short lived. A new drawing is on its way and it is NOT going to be a picnic to complete. The specific composition and idea are somewhere but can't take shape. Whenever I pick up a pen, my hand shakes and I can't focus. FRUSTRATING. This has been going on for several days. I've had to throw out two complete drafts of my new ink and the third is a mess. Hopefully this won't last until September when I have an art show (It's kind of a big thing for me) at a local library. I'm thinking a nice day at the beach, away from people and pencils would do me some good. Hmmm... (Is it weird to call them inks? I feel like a tattoo artist.) M O R E N E W S >> |
